[Public-List] corroded rudder

Folks
I’m a bit confused. I’m assuming the rudder is attached with the normal arrangement of pintles on the rudder and gudgeons on the deadwood. The rudder post then passes thru the rudder tube and attaches to the top of the rudder.

This thread seems to imply the rudder post goes full length thru the rudder and forms the pintles.

In my experience the gudgeons seem to wear more than the pintles especially the split gudgeons like this boat has. You might be able to replace these and avoid messing into the rudder.

I never went as far as all or nothing-I mostly wanted just to inspect-but it was pretty resistant. A bend or twist is not noticeable from the tiller, I do not know what the tolerances are in the tube.
