?Hey folks:

We reused the shrink wrap our boat came with last winter and we are ready to move on to a more permanent solution for a winter cover.

Wondered if someone had the design or dimensions for building mast supports at the bow, stern, and centre to hold a simple winter cover draped over the mast as a ridge pole - stantions removed?

Someone suggested a bail tarp on its own. Ideas where to source one and size? 20?x40??

Thanks in advance!

We have used a couple of saw horses, one on the fore deck and one aft then
a 20x40 ft tarp. We tied gallon milk jugs 3/4 full of water to each of the
grommets on the edges of the tarp. Do not tie the tarp to the boat or the
jack stands because a strong winter storm could blow the boat over.

I used tried and true blue tarps with plastic zip ties to stitch the edges together. Plastic milk jugs filled with water holds the edges down to cover the rail.

Never saw a need for saw horses or any kind 2? x4? lumber down the center. Many better options available. You could string a length of anchor rode or spare dock line pulpit to mast and hang the tarps over that, and the main boom. Or, just tie off the whisker pole above the fore deck. The biggest maintenance issue is arranging the tarps so big sumps of winter rainwater can run off.

We use the mast as our ridge pole for our canvass winter cover. We call the cover ?the shroud of Turin? because it has the imprint of the boat worn into it. The tarp is 20 x 30

I stand a scissor of 2x4 in the aft end of the cockpit, high enough I can stand up in the cockpit when the cover is on.

Up forward I lay a 2x4 athwartship over the bow pulpit. When the mast comes down it?s laid on the pulpit and scissor crutch

I have a strut (2x4) which stands in the regular mast step and is a press fit under the midpoint of the mast as protection against snow load.

I leave the ends fore and aft open so air can blow through. We get a lot of snow but accumulation under the tarp is never a problem

We had an owl set up housekeeping under the tarp one year? it was a very clean tenant. Apparently they don?t poop where they live The street person wasn?t so tidy.
